    hi there :)

i have been collecting my jars and used wax (old yankee candles) for a long time now, i really need to start making them soon.

i bought my wick on ebay, very cheap and for a large amount

although ive recently discovered that you need to buy the correct type of wick for the size of the jar/glass ????????????? :undecided
    i have no idea :p

im going to be decorating my jars with crepe paper and glitter,
just cut your shapes out and pva glue them to the outside of the jar then add a bit of glitter

    like this http://www.herewearetogether.com/2012/02/11/valentines-day-craft-for-kids-tissue-paper-glitter-heart-jar-candle-holder/

i melt my wax like chocolate (saucepan of boiling water with a pyrex bowl on top holding the way)

another nice decorating tip, is to get some craft wire and thread some beads onto it then wrap around candle, or wrap around the top to make a handle :)

you can also buy glitter pens especially for glass which would be really nice for decorating :)

    xx

I want to make candles from unused wax also but I'm really lost with wicks. There are different types and widths, etc, I believe so how do you determine what to use?

    Bump.....................
  • Hi everyone, is there any avid candle makers out there?

I have lots of lovely candles which have unforunately burnt down the middle but I have loads of left over wax round the edges (does that make sense!?).

It seems such a waste to throw away so much wax, does anyone know if I can melt it down and buy wicks from somewhere to make new candles? Is there any tecnique to this?

Would love to hear any ideas! Thanks in advance :)

  • read the other threads, and looked at ebay, can I reuse the silver discs from old tea lights and rethread it with brought wicks??

  • I have done this in the past with the wee discs
  • I bought wick from the local craft shop, cost about £1, think I got 1 - 2 metres.

I just cellotape it to the bottom of an old Douwe Egberts coffee jar (the nice type with a glass lid) and wrap the top end around a pencil so that it stays in the middle of the jar.

then just melt down all the left over bits of candle and pour into the jar (any bits of matches, wick etc will sink to the bottom of the saucepan).

You can scent the wax with essential oils or perfume.
