Cheaper hotel rooms!

As the likes of booking.com and laterooms charge hotels a flat rate 15% commission on the accommodation they sell via their sites, I find the best price available on these sites and then phone the hotel directly and ask for an 8 - 10% discount on these rates. The hotels that are on the ball are happy to do this, saves them and saves me!:j

I have been doing this for years and 8/10 times will save. The commission that these online agents take is so high that hotels are happy to do a deal.:j0

LOL, yes used to do this myself, althoguh they dont charge a flat rate 15% commission - it varies. Some are lower than this, depending on their corporate agreements.
Technically though, as part of the agreements, there should be rate parity, and hotels shouldn't actually do this, (and many won't as I have found as well!!) but will often do a deal on the phone, and the other benefit of booking direct is you might have a slightly better chance of getting an upgrade if they have overbooked on the standard rooms - again as they have seen more of their money, although equally if someone has paid a good rate through b00king.com then they might also find they get a nice surprise upgrade too
