Help - No Moving Animations

Windows XP.

I don't come here very often and admit don't go about reading other threads before posting. Call it lack of time, laziness or both.

Playing animations in web pages is not working in my browsers (I have checked my settings to ensure this box is ticked).
I use both internet explorer and maxthon (which I know is IE based).
I have tried resetting my settings to now effect and I have both the latest Java and flash programs installed.
I have done spyware checks and I have broadband.

Even the smilies to my right of this composition message are not working right now.

Am I missing anything please?
Have tried a couple of websites to verify my problems and I do like adverts but not pop-ups.

This is a genuine problem. I am no timewaster.

  • I'm no techie but had the same problem....do you use Zone Alarm?

If so will have a play to find the setting you need to change.

  • On Zone Alarm go to Privacy, selct custom next to 'Ad Blocking', untick 'animation' underneath ads to block.

  • I use Comodo firewall I am afraid and I have had their settings checked.
I used to use Zonealarm then got rid of it after constant pop-ups for refusing to buy their full version.

Guess I will have to keep looking elsewhere for any ad blocking stuff.

    Cheers.

  • No luck.

The second command you gave me "regsvr32.exe /i shdoc401.dll " pooped up the message that the specified module could not be found.

Here's another piece of news for you I intend placing on another thread - I had dial up with Supanet whilst changing broadband suppliers. Normally when you reset your explorer settings, you expect to sent to Microsofts homepages, right?
Well, I deleted everything to do with Supanet only to find supanet as default homepage after resetting.

That doesn't sound right to me.

  • Paul, that command you gave me is now refusing me to update either my anti-virus or firewall.

    How do I reverse it?

Just thought I'd let the masses know that I found the solution to my own problem.

I needed the latest Macromedia Flash Player.
I'd always had flash stored but it seems the internet has changed again.
Either that or something sneaked into my pc and made it play up forcing me to unstall a few programs in order to try and find the cause.

How did I come across this?
Tried a couple of other browsers - Opera was the one that found it for me.

Apart from Mozilla which is integrated into Netscape, anybody know of any other web browsers that are Win XP compatible and not IE based?

Does anybody equally want to praise me :-)
(Now I am a proper techie, just about)
