Okay firstly received letter today re they had me on file as owning one of these machines that now years later they had identified a fault. The fault after ringing the helpline was that the front panel overheats due to a component failure and that it has a risk to catch fire. I had to ask more details and I had good reason.
It turns out my new machine by a few digits is not the affected batch, but they are contacting me re my old machine which was. This is the same machine that caught FIRE. We were in the kitchen it started to smell and make funny noises and a friend of mine since died (miss you J XX) was quick enough to notice it was on fire and we unplugged it and got it out quickly with foam spray and literally as not too sure how far the fire was going on inside wire wise to cut risk or re starting we rolled it onto its back and pushed out the back door.
So you can imagine the scene water everywhere plates smashing etc.....
The machine was scorched and control panel melted adn I rang the manufacturer to be told it was out of warranty and I had not chosen extended insurance and that well basically told me the fire was out so nothing I could do as in why so stressed.
Any way this machine till them had been great and after being one of the unfortunate owners many years ago of a washer dryer made by a different firm that was well published that caught fire, I soon learn later models could be safer as in dont rule out the brand too quickly and lose bargain to spite I am offended or upset.
Any way the house did not burn down the machine was out of warantly slightly, so I assumed nothing I could do. But I was suprised the manufacturer did not want to inspect it to rule out ongoing issue with other same machines or well just to check, but the operator I spoke to was not interested really.
So I get this letter and it indeed refers to the old machine. On talking to the agency handelling the calls on behalf of manufacturer even she agrees it sounds linked as in could possibly have been the fault they are now replacing the part for as well exactly as I describe.
So I will type the letter and if you have an affected machine please ring them as mine did indeed catch fire a few years ago and at that time as they were not aware of a problem I feel mine was fobbed off.
Next post will include the letter

BSH has announced a voluntary repair action for the repair of certain Bosch, neff and Siemens dishwasher models.
Our quality control programme has identified that an electrical component on a limited number of Bosch, Neff and Siemens branded dishwashers may overheat and in very rare cases cause a potential fire hazard.
Our records indicate that you may own, blah blah blah.
IMPORTANT bit:
Manufactured between 1999 and early 2005
Batch number ranges from FD 7901 to FD 8504
0800 561 0082 to ring for free repair.0 -
First sign my old machine was having problems was the display acting oddly and starting to SMELL of burning/melting , as in fits in that it was overheating etc..... and lucky enough we caught it as it broke into flames in time as was not at upstairs unaware.
You see after one of the infamous washer dryers that were a fire hazard years ago that was a totally different brand and the old dishwasher, I have basically sat in same room when machines are on for safety and it took a time to start to feel stupid and it was okay to leave alone as if babysitting a child.
My new machine even though not in batch series has started to act oddly intermitant only two days ago, display jumping and noise from below, so you can imagine how I reacted when got this letter, not sure wether they were refering to prior machine which caught fire or the new one.
So I am going to write to bosch and ask them that in the circumstances of what happened to me adn the fact I then chose to buy another as well it was on the whole reliable till fried itselfthen as they did not take my issue seriously some time ago would they like to look into what they can do for me, as in perhaps they would like to volunteer a service to my new machine and identify what the intermitant issue is I am refering to and if find fix for free or give me vouchers for future purchase.
you see they today on phone told me they like to investigate machines that catch fire for obvious reason, so why did they not for me. I feel it was down to the rep I spoke to and the fact they were too happy to say out of waranty etc... as you will obviously gather they are well out of their warrantly now compared to when I rang up a few years ago at least now !!!!!!!!!!
Will see if they want to put their prior fob off right and restore my faith in bosch as well all my items are always bosch.
Boy do we take our dishwashers for granted. I maintain mine and due to eczma cannot tolerate liquids and gloves even, the thought of hand washing stupidly gets me cringing as know I will get the hands of mrs frankenstein again !!!!!!!0 -

Just a little bump to hope any owners see this0

Have you put in a claim to the manufacturers? The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0

Well they rang me back today after my raising concerns they did not take me seriously other than saying out of guarantee last time agreed sounded like poorly trained rep.
The company resonding on behalf of BSH said my description sounded the same as the fault.
The gent I them spoke to from bosch after also hearing a similar incident on consumer radio show, said it sounded the same.
So customer liason rang me today and you could tell them were in protection mode. Despite them should have all the facts as were privvy to my address and details it seemed even on their system they had no reference the the machine.
In fact the woman kept telling me the repair was voluntary on their part and that if a owner did not want it done they woudl not force the issue, yer right, how many are going to say do not fix my machine I can live with a fire risk? !!!!!!!!!
They were really trying to play it low key, as in an intermitant problem, but surely this is more than coincidence and they are willing to for free replace the affected faulty part on all surviving machines back to 1999, yet to me who had a fire were quoting waranty issues, i mean its not as if they could get a burnt out machine back to life again is it
They asked me for date and time of call and i said they probably were better placed to find it on their systems as the machine was registered, but could not find it
They then asked for original receipt bearing in mind how old this machine would be today, but then you see thats where me being a horder comes in as it is likely I have it some where, so are not beign asked to pull my garage apart to source proof of the origianl receipt.
I did point out that at same time I bought washing machine and fridge freezer and all were registered and i still have the fridge freezer so they should be able to tie in times and dates from that of purchase, but they were not interested.
They definatley want me to do all the work.
I mean are they askign for receipts from machines in peoples houses no and it was them who chose to ignore the seriousness of machine that had caught fire.
Coincidence my butt, my machine was written off and signs of a problem were ignored from them which could have if they were not aware id it at an earlier stage. I wonder if a subject access request woudl do in this occassion re my address and machines they were aware of.
Makes you wonder how many people might have been fobbed off a few years ago due to warranty, is this a sign bosch were lax with their staff re such serious incidents some years ago.
Got to have a look for that receipt, I am determined to find it now even if it takes weeks, due to the woman today talking over me and telling me to listen to her when I told her how shocked i was, she was more intersted in saying it was not a more serious issue.
How many machines need to catch fire before it is serious and how many perhaps already have that are not advertised due to the low key nature of the repair, I mean its not standing out as priority on their web site last time I looked or for protecting their cusomers why do such companies not post on these sites to get message out to as many as possible.
Could it be as I suspect they are hoping most machines have just been replaced and that it will be a low key issue?
They let me down and bosch stink as far as I am concerned for that
And I was trusting enough to buy another, I have to watch it now when on as cannot trust their next model wont years later have a letter appear. Bit late surely this should be newspaper issue!!!!! As in them posting warning re these machine batches.0 -
I will due to attitude of this woman alone never buy another bosch machine or machine under their umbrella.
They would have had me on their system as they had a repair guy out to one of my machines on two occassions in the past, funny they had no record, convinient I have to put it down as !!!!!!!!
