I think coving really finishes a room and have it on all of mine.

You can get a polystyrene coving which has a sort of paper top-coating which looks as good as plaster when fixed up and painted. Not sure where you get it but would imagine most DIY shops would sell it. It'a a cheaper option than plaster and a nicer finish than polystyrene.

I think your builder is talking !!!!!!. I run a maintenance company and we install loads of coving. What you will probably find is that he doesn't like doing it and therefore is talking you out of it.
Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.

I don't think I'd want them in a modern property, but period features, such as coving in old houses are a major selling point. Mind you, I used coving in my bathroom to hide that the ceiling was totally wonky, and the tiles just highlighted it.

I would definitely try and restore my flat to its former glory, it looks like it'd probably need something quite elaborate but the cost scares me!

I hate coving and can't understand why my DS and his GF have just installed it in their house.

I quite like the coving with the external profile - I think they call it cornice coving.

I love coving it finishes a room off, it looks nice if its painted a slight different shade as the walls , it stands out then , ive got dulux brilliant white ceilings, dulux walls cream and coving magnolia........I dont think coving is going out of fashion at all, not like the dreaded artex of the 70s..... personal choice..

I live in a new build house that is 5 years old. It has coving downstairs and none upstairs. I think this is the norm with most builders now.

Because it costs them more money to do the whole house
