we havent got to the pocket money stage yet my girls are 4 and 5 yr old and by the time we've paid for dancing classes, swimming lessons, rainbow subs and weekly church collection there isnt any left for comics very often they are rare in my house!! they havent noticed pocket money yet nor have they realised there are cinema out there!! so i'm enjoying it while it lasts as there is plenty of years ahead when they'll be mithering for money,to go cinema, bowling etc!

I've been wondering, when do you starting giving pocket money and how much?

My son is 3 he doesn't get pocket money, though I do let him have coppers and some small change out of my purse for his piggybank from time to time.
  • he is still a bit young IMO to recieve a set amount of pocket money but you could now start to reward with money for chores
i dont mean get him a stool an make him wash up..lol...but like picking up his toys on his own trying to make his bed just little things but you will lso have to try and explain what he can get with his money as in 10p would buy him a bag of sweets but all them 10p saved up could get him an activity pack for 2 pounds you know the ones i mean in the craft shops they have all sequins an stickers ect

its what i did an it worked just a sugestion it also helps them learn that as they get older the bigger the chore the bigger the pennies..lol so makes them more inclined to help out an apriciate the value of things

My daughter is 3 in December and I've been putting £2 a week into her piggy bank for about 18 months, along with any spare coppers I've got. I'm using it more as a way of getting some savings behind her, and I don't expect to be doling out 'real' pocket money for a good few years yet. Even then I don't expect it'll be much more than £2 for a while.

My children started getting pocket money at 4 or 5. Once they started school they began asking for things like stickers, small toys etc that their friends had, so it was appropriate for them to have a small amount of cash for these things or to save up for something. At that age I didn't want it to be spent on sweets as I preferred to choose what and when they were eaten. I think they had about £1 or so...I remember DS1 was able to puy a pack of Panini stickers each week with his, but DD used to save up for a few weeks and buy Sylvanian families stuff.
  • we have 3 sons 14,12 and 7 we dont do pocket money!!
our boys get money for school if they need it eldest son always has about £4-£5in his wallet he never spends anything middle son has about 70p-£1 most days they have to have emergency £1 for a bus fare and a fone call home tho so their wallets are never empty-during the week if they go somewhere they have money as needed and if they go out with friends they get money-its not a bottomless pit they know how to play fair but so far so good it works for us......youngest son is like shylock he has a dr who tardis (moneybox)packed with money he scrounges or finds or gets given.
:p dee mum of 3 "before you buy ...think,how many hours have i worked to pay for this?,do i need it? or can i get it r&r in tesco!! hee heee:A
