we started giving 50p per week (we did occasionally give 20p before they where 10, but they where a little young to no the difference IYSWIM..!), when they where 10, then increased it by 50p each birthday, until there 14th birthday, when we changed it to £15 per month, then increased this to a maximum of £25 per month (so they all had £30 which included £5 per month paid into a savings account since they where born)
youngest (12) only gets pocket money £1.50 per week
middle daughter (15) - does a paper round and gets £25 per month from us
eldest daughter (nearly 18) - works part-time and gets £25 per month, but this will stop once she leaves college..... (although she will be going to uni - but the definate £25pm will become a little sporadic)
yes they have to do jobs at home and yes they moan about it.......
on top they do still get bits n peices bought for them, but the older two generally buy fashionable clothes and shoes themselves, whilst neccessities are bought for themsmile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....

Mine aged 7, nearly 11 and 12 get £1 a week, plus £1 here and there from their grandmothers. We might increase eldest's when he turns 13.0

My 13 and 14 year olds get £20 per month but do jobs for that washing up, putting a wash on, vacuming, they can negotiate with me extra-just given the daughter a tenner after she did a basket of ironing (big basket).
They all have part time jobs as well and get £2 per week from grandparents.
I pay for activities (like football subs) but they pay for mobile top ups, C.D's and trips to the cinema with freinds.
They mostly buy own clothes, I buy uniforms coats and shoes.
I also give them £10 each at the start of the week for dinner monies-they can use this as they wish-if they want to make up a lunch from home they could keep the money-strange though they never do this? I would.0 -
What do you think is the right amount to give a daughter 13 years old - should she have a clothing allowance (how much). At the moment she is bleeding me dry....
Any ideas on how to get the kids to help more at home?0 -
Hi the Great Dane and welcome to MSE..I have a feeling you will start a long and fiery debate with this thread

Personally, I would say there is no right set amount but it should depend on how she contributes/attitude etc. I am sure others will be along to offer their own and equally valid opinions.....Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life. ~Confucius0 -
My daughter is just 14 and I give her £5 per week IF she washes the pots and keeps her room tidy- she spends this on whatever she wants. I also buy all of her clothes ( but if there is something extra she wants she will buy it from birthday/christmas money etc) Her dad gives her £20 per month which she tops up her phone with and her grandparents give her £10 per week - but they save this weekly and she will use it for shopping trips etc... I have wondered lately about a clothing allowance as i do seem to spend a fortune on her clothes and will be looking at these replies with interest:p19.6.10 Weight loss 6lb

My neice is 13 she gets £5.00 a week, thats it, she does the odd thing in the house rarely, but thats because my sister dosen't ask her to do anything.
My neice seems to be fine with it. My sister gets her something when she has got the money and dosent get her anything when she hasn't got the money, my neice has never been unreasonable and has never said 'thats not fair' she's a good kid.
My sister buys her clothes as well.Capital one was £1000.00 now £0.00:j
Barclaycard was £250.00 now £190. 00
Asda credit card was £500.00 now £0.00:j
Aim to be credit card free by December 2012... Mostly done0 -
I'd go for £5 a week for doing some jobs around the house and being 13 also encourage her to get a part-time job, it'll help when moving from education into full time work0

DS 13 gets £25 per month + £5 on his phone + subscription to WOW. Out of the £25 he buys family presents, non school bus fares, trips out like the cinema or Mc Ds etc. He is much more careful now I have made him responsible for this sort of thing - Previously he would whine for cinema popcorn at £2.50 a go, now he is paying he is happy towalk to Wilkos and get it cheap!0
