Hi all.
We are in the process of buying/moving house but aren't going to sell our current property straight away. This will mean we will have two council tax bills. Can we get a reduction in the CT bill for the empty property until it sells?
Thanks

As far as I can recall you only pay one council tax one one property if your selling the other, and have 6 months grace for the other and then pay the appropiate council tax0

A dwelling which is vacant will be exempt from council tax for up to six months. Vacant means unoccupied and substantially unfurnished. The six months will start from the date the dwelling becomes both unoccupied and unfurnished. The dwelling must be vacant throughout the six months.
If the dwelling becomes either furnished or occupied during the six months, it will no longer be exempt. The dwelling can be occupied for up to six weeks during the six months without affecting the exemption. If the dwelling is still vacant after six months, it may be subject to a discount.0 -
I agree with poppycat, my local council allows a 6 month exemption providing property is empty, and a further 6 months at 50% charge if you have still not sold it by then.
