Tiling on to bare plasterboard

Good evening ladies and gents
:)
Just a quick question from sunny Eastbourne :rotfl:
Just had my bathroom re-plastered and the plaster board behind the bath replaced with new sheets as the old ones were knackered. The new sheets were not skimmed with plaster however the joints were scrimmed (plasterers words, not 100% on this!!)
Can the new boards be tiled straight on to or do they need treating with something first?
Mucho Gracias!

Prime with two coats of Primer G or APD first then tile away. The first person to suggest PVA as a primer gets a mighty slap.:)

pva - Nicely put :-)
if its behind the bath it may be worth considering using a tanking membrane on the part that will come into contact with water - it'll save you replacing the boards again!0 -
Bit late to tell you now, but above the bath - especially (or rather, definately) if you have a shower above it, you should really have looked at having aquaboard rather than plasterboard put there.

plasterboards fine as long as you tank it first0

OP said nothing about a shower just a bath. Yes tank it for a shower - around 1½m up from the deck of the bath, all the way alomng the short edge and about 1½m down the long edge is quite sufficient.

search for bal wp1, or if you want a kit something like this waterproofing kit example0
-
Membrane systems (Schluter, Homelux, Durabase) are far superior to the painted on systems like WP1.

bal wp1 is a range - it comes as a kit, or as separate parts. i was referring to the wp1 tanking coating.
and why is a link to a relevant product spam? i suppose it would have been fine if it linked to another shop would it???? surely the reference to homelux etc is also spam then?
Spam would be a link that wasn't helpful at all and wasn't relevant to the post.
and, while i think about it in this case i have advised the poster to search for a product that a don't sell?? hardly hardcore marketing eh?0
