great responses everyone, and glad to see its not only me and the gf who are doing longer hours, the way this idiot she works with makes it sound as though if me or her do over 40 hours a month we may end up in jail! :rotfl: Theres always one i guess at every company
So a simple written letter/email to her manager from her should say she's happy to work more than 40 hours OT a month?
I know how Viper feels, 10 years ago I was doing 12 hour days for 6 days then a 15 hour day on Sunday, took its toll after a few weeks but a weeks holiday (already planned in) helped get over it, then back in for more of the same!0 -
Not a matter of "wanting" the cash. It's obviously nice but some roles require people to go beyond the 9-5!
You don't just go home if say the Stock market mainframes have "crashed"
You don't just go home if a plane has just crashed and you have lots of emergency patients. Many roles out there which require every now and again working stupid hours!
Totally agree Viper0 -

Oh of course - in some jobs it's a need. I was more referring to the fact that you said "easy money", which suggested you were doing it for the cash! It wasn't an accusation, I'd do it, too!
KiKi' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".0 -

Don't send a letter just do the hours while happy to do them.
Don't opt out of WTD unless you have to it is much harder to opt back in to protect your rights if you want to later.
The employer is the only one at any risk of getting done and that requires a complaint from the worker, Which is unlikely since you want the work.
Another option is to negotiate a bit of extra time off as an alternative to pay.
Also watch for how long it goes on fatigue can kick in which is not good for antone as productivity drops0
