Washing Machine Temperature Knob Broken?

We have an Indesit Washer Dryer (IWDC 6125 S). The majority of our washing is done at 40degrees, but I recently needed to do a 30degree wash, and went to change the temperature knob. It usually clicks when turned, but instead just lost all pressure when I rned it and now it will turn freely without 'locking in' to any temperature, or clicking at all.

I have since done washing with no odd outcomes, so I am assuming it's either stayed on 40 or switched to 30, but have no way of checking or changing. I would like to get it sorted, but do not have extended warranty. The indesit websire states they'll do repairs for a one of payment of £79(iirc), which would be a hug amount of a temperature knob.

Has anybody ever had this happen before? :(
