STEAM GENERATOR, PHILIPS GC8261 or GC8210

Options
I'm thinking of buying a new STEAM GENERATOR, the PHILIPS - GC8261 (top of the range), which I've found for £200 on Argos of about £100!!! on ebay (new, but damaged boxes) or the Philips GC8210 which is £100 (reduced from £150) in Argos.
If I buy from Argos & there are any problems then there are no problems about getting a replacement, however with the ebay shop, there isn't that safety net, however at a top of the range one for the same price as a couple of models down in Argos, is it worth taking a chance.

Has anyone got one of these new Philips steam generators, I have had 2 Tefal ones till now & I love them except for the Tefal soleplate, which is fantastic when new but wears badly. It's a kind of non-stick coating & is really hard to clean as it gets older. My current one is somewhere between 2 & 3 years old & if I scrub with a brillo I can get it back to clean, but where it's been scrubbed so hard, wears it as well so it comes back quicker.

The PHILIPS - GC8261 is also more powerful (steam output & bar) than the top of the range Tefal one. I do a fair bit of ironing, so like a really good one.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I bought a steam generator iron a good few years back from Lidl...£49.99 and the best £50 odd quid I have ever spent. The specifications were the same as the cheaper models in Argos but it was brilliant................until I dropped it - completely smashed. I replaced with another no-name from Robert Dyas just before Christmas for £39.99 works a treat....every home should have one.

They are great aren't they. The one I have now was about £75 in a Robert Dyas sale, but I'm looking to upgrade. If my husband wants at least one perfectly ironed shirt everyday (without all the other stuff I iron for him) he can buy a damn good ironj to do it with!!! LOL LOL
Like I said I've had two Tefal steam generators & before that always Tefal irons, but the sole plate is great when new, but doesn't last. That's why I'm wondering what the new Philips Careeza soleplate is like, but I think the lower model has a Inox soleplate, anyone know the difference?

philips careeza soleplate is great, used my mothers iron the other day and what a chore, cant see us buying anything else ever
  • i just bought the GC8210 from Argos today, could not believe I was spending £100 on an Iron  and my daughter thinks I've gone barmy BUT I have used it for just a couple of things and i am sooooo impressed already, very fast to use. I like this model has some great features and is meant to fit on any iron board, was going to get the Morphy richards one for 74.99 but the Ironing board bit def swung it. £100 is a good price for its features. I am now going to Iron everything in sight!!

Was your mothers the iron or steam generator with the careeza soleplate? Its great to hear you liked the careeza soleplate as my only grip with the Tefal is the soleplate, great when new, doesn't wear well.

    Thank you

hi I just bought the phillips gc6068 steam generator rrp £150.00 for £30 in the house of fraser sale, it has the careeza soleplate, my old iron which is also a phillips iron has a careeza soleplate and after 6 years its still in brilliant condition. I've never had to clean the plate or anything else, in fact if the above iron was not so cheap I would have waited till my old iron was no longer working before investing in a new iron

Wow thats amazing, I looked online, but they don't mention it. I didn't have a house of Frazer near me (nearest Bluewater, I think?).
I should imagine at that price they are all gone.
You should have bought them all & sold them, on ebay! LOL
