Paying bills at the counter?

I used to pay bills at the bank’s ATM machine, and bank removed this facility from the ATM, and this was done last year. They said I can pay the bills at the counter, and this was fine by me.

Now the bank is saying, paying bills at the counter has stopped, and I should use the telephone or online banking. I am against using telephone and online banking! I can’t remember passwords and info about my accounts, etc, due to my poor health and writing down passwords.

I think they are lying, because how do they deal with people who can ill, have short memory, or are against telephone and online.

The bank is well known in the high street, (sorry, no name)

What do I do?

Thanks

    You are talking about Halifax.

Your options are to pay your bills by other means or to start using phone or Internet banking. They aren't obliged to do such things in a branch; in fact, given that phone calls are recorded and so can be used to settle any disputes, they're better off not doing so.

I was thinking of the Halifax....

    also

I also believe they prefer customers with electron cards to stay away from branch, as they see electron customers as non credit worthy (even though some people will have good credit).
The branch staff have high conversion rates for sales, and non credit worthy customers affect this......
Thats why electron customers rarely get called in for a banking review!
Promo codes are never always cheaper..... isnt that right EuropCar?

Halifax are the biggest pile of pants going. I feel ashemed Lloyds even got involved with them. My advice would be to dump them and go to a proper bank - Lloyds. You can pay bills over the counter and withdraw cash with a cheque made out to cash! I know I do as do other old biddies.

These once-upon-a-time building societies like Halifax, Santander that pretend to offer current account facilities are just financial clowns.

Abbey National were the same I think. Tried to charge people £3 to pay a bill over the counter.

Why can Lloyds do those things for free and offer decent interest rates with Vantage speaks volumes.

You can pay your bills at the counter with the Halifax, just take your GIRO credit and your cash or Halifax account and they will gladly oblige. What's your problem? Internet and telephone are just alternatives available which many people prefer to use as they have better things to do with their time rather than queue up in a bank.

Why just not pay via direct debit then all you have to do is pay the money into your account in time.

I purposely don't pay this way because companies want you to. They harass you into doing so by charging extra by not paying this way. These companies I avoid. It is about time that was outlawed.

Tesco don't charge more for aproduct if you pay by cash or by card or by Tesco Vouchers.

That's just your opinion a tad biased considering also some companies offer you a discount if you pay via direct debit. If a company chooses to charge extra for not paying by direct debit then that is their policy. I was replying to advise the OP as to other options that they may not have considered when paying their bills. Benefits of direct debits are you don't need to do a thing when your bill changes and you also are covered with a direct debit guarantee scheme.

Because it costs more with other methods.... just like delivery from M&S costs an extra £3.50... because it costs more to use that method.
