Ok I know this odd but here goes.

Getting a tad naffed off with the young'un getting sent up to their room as a punishment then they just sit on their xbox playing online, this issue is compounded by the fact the router is in their room, so they can hard wire into it

So, with the exception of taking the xbox out of their room, which Mrs Pb is'nt a fan of as shes a soft touch, is there anyway I can prevent the xbox from going online in the router settings?

Ta for now

Depends on your router but in you can try this:- in the router settings page, look for' connected devices' which should give you the MAC id of the xbox you will then be able to add this MAC id to the blocked devices - you can do that on my Netgear router ( I have done so for the very same reasons with the kids laptops!).

Only problem is you will need to ensure the young 'un doesn't find out the router password or they'll be able to get in and change the settings back! Also, you will need to go in and unblock the xbox every time you have forgiven the kids!

    UDP 88
    UDP-3074
    TCP-3074
    UDP 53
    TCP 53

Why on Earth is the router in their room? That is the first thing I would change - is there no way you can put the router in the lounge or somewhere where you have got good access to it? Alternatively, you could always remove the power supply from the router and give them no way to power it up.

Its in their room because through some quirk the phone line's point of entry is in there room.

And the problem with removing the power supply is means there will be no internet for me and she who must be feared.

Think i need to get into the superuser settings of the router to block the i.p address however all the passwords to gain access to the settings dont seem to be working, the router in question is a thomson which is with o2

LOL stand up to your misses man and tell her to not be so soft. All you have to do then is remove the xbox or atleast the PSU.

The better way.. And scarier way for the kids.. take out the VGA/HDMI cable.. When they turn it on next it will load up with 4 red lights.

They'll think it's broken, they can't play it if they think it's broken.

Whilst that is a very good idea if he's anything like a lot of young lads he'll have it in pieces and the heatsink off, repasted and put back together in 20 mins lol. He'll probably flash it too whilst hes there and add some LEDS to the controller whilst waiting for the paste to set.

Mean while most us are still trying to get the damn case off still after an hour lol
