Steel bath thicknesses, stability and showering suitability...

So I've just gone and got myself a steel bath. It's a Roca Contessa and they weren't too sure of the thickness but I'm assuming it's a 2.2 from looking online....

SO I've been told if I have a shower in the bath (which we will) that I will need a thicker bath.

Is this true? ANd if so is there anything the fitters can do to compensate?

Thanks guys!

Not sure who told you that. I undertake a lot of bathroom installations and have used roca and similar for customers who shower in the bath and have not had a single comeback. Providing its well installed, it'll be fine.

So what actual difference does the thickness make if any?

To be tuthful, I can't answer that question. I just know that I have had no trouble with Roca or similar baths.

Steel is a far better product than acrylic which, even when installed correctly, are prone to long term leaks through the mastic.

We have a Roca Contessa bath and it's FAB!! Not at all eco-friendly as it has a huge volume compared to other baths that would fit in our gap. It does empty the whole hot water tank to fill it but it's lovely and big to wallow in. :D

Re showering, we have a shower over it and it's absolutely fine. No flexing whatsoever. I've never heard of it being an issue with steel baths. With plastic ones, if you have a thin plastic it can flex a bit underfoot when you walk around in it (i.e. when showering). That's the only issue that thin plastic baths cause and to be honest it doesn't actually stop you showering in them.

We also got the Roca Laura suite and put Roca Targa taps on everything when we did our bathroom up last year and the quality for the price seems excellent.

If you are that worried about it flexing, don't rely just on the feet, but built a decent frame to hold it as well (simple job, just a few lengths of scrap wood knocked together - doesn't have to look pretty).

I went over the top and used the feet supplied, the ones from the old bath and a pair I got out of a skip

    Never moves

Thanks guys. Glad we didn't pay extra for thickness. :)
