Worried about my pensioner ;0(

Well took my kitty to the vets today. The vet didn't seem overly concerned about her teeth; however, when examining her, he noticed she had pain in the bladder area.

He is unsure what the problem is & has given her to antibiotic injections just incase it's an infection. He thinks if it's not an infection, then she may have a tumour or similar.

Anyway, I have to take her back in 2 weeks with a urine sample. He has said to stop the Metacam for the time being. So, not sure how I'm going to manage her arthritis pain.

It dosen't seem she has ever been away from the vets & this is the third lot of antibiotics since April. I'm considering buying a feline probiotic to assist her gut flora after the hammering from the antibiotics.

I can't help but to think the worst as nothing seems to be improving. Could there be a positive outcome?

  • Awwwww, poor kitty, sorry to hear she's unwell again and a big hug for her from me.

Nothing useful to suggest from me (sorry) - the probiotic could certainly help protect her tum - keeping everything crossed it is "just" an infection and this lot of antibiotics get it sorted.

Sorry to hear that she's poorly. The probiotic is a good idea. You never know with older cats but my old boy was quite poorly recently but has made a good recovery. Is she eating ok despite the teeth?
  • Thanks for the nice replies.

She is about 19yrs old now, so I guess she isn't doing all that bad.

As for eating, she is looking for food, just not really attempting to eat anywhere near as much as she should be. Fortunatly, I am not having to syringe food or water into her mouth, but has has lost more weight since the last time I took her to the vets.

I am going to research alternative remedies which may help her. I cared for a cat who suffered with cat aids & homoepathy really helped her alongside conventional medication.

Hopefully, this course of antibiotics will clear up the problems.
