It would need to know what tarriff you are on with your current supplier

Some companys have like 10 difrant tariffs pay on receipt of bill web saver tariffs .If they dont know what your currently paying its hard to compare.

I have tried to use Uswitch but our EON tarrif is not listed so can't make a proper comparison...so personally, no Uswitch is not reliable...

I am on Eon Fix Online 9

Edited to add: well shoot me, I just checked again and it is there now..it wasn't last week.

The good news is there isn't anything cheaper out there for me at the moment
  • When I've checked Uswitch's quotes in my spreadsheet (a work of art) the calcs are to the penny.

But I have one confusion. If you enter very low kWhs for one fuel, comparison sites like Uswitch tell you that you are spending only a few quid on that fuel (which would be true) but then quote a massive saving on that same fuel for switching. Try sticking a 100 kWhs in for a fuel and see this.

On a dual fuel quote the credit ( maybe £50+ ) on the 100 kWhs fuel is then knocked orf the other one's cost when quoting the total cost.

Would this occur in reality? Or is this just an algorithm quirk on the sites?

Why do they want to know what tariff you are on?

They can list them in ascending or descending order providing they know your consumption and the area that you live.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

The clue is in the name, "Comparison site" not "list them in ascending or descending order site" ;)

The fact is, they DO list them in the order you describe, if you put in your KWH usage then the results page will do just that, just ignore any expected savings given (if you put garbage in you will get garbage out) but the anual spend will be correct.

But the real question is why do you have such a problem putting in your current supplier??
    Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently! ;)

Thank you to all who answered my query. The thing is u-switch said you HAVE spent £1027 when I had only spent £741.I know they went by the new prices but that's not the point.Actually another thing is the price is supposed to be going up by 18% .At the moment we are paying just over 9pence per kwh for the second tier prices, the new price for the same thing will be over 12p. To me that is equivalent to more than 30%. I've only got o-level maths so
maybe we need a degree to work all these numbers out.Are all the companies trying to bamboozle us?
    Hi Mojoman,

You've actually spotted a typo for me (thanks!). It should say WILL spend, not HAVE spent - so I'll correct that.

The other thing to be aware of is that the 18% price rise is just an average - individual tariff can go up by more or less than that.

Why do the comparison web sites need to know who your current supplier is?

If I give them my usage for the year ( and where I live) it should be easy enough for them to tell me, who can supply me with the cheapest power

Unless it is. They only get paid if you do change.
    Hi Ariba10,

We need to know your current supplier and tariff so that we can tell you whether or not you'll save money by switching, and also because some tariffs and offers are only available to new customers.

    Hope this answers your question.

    Hi Irratus Rusticus,

I tried doing this and couldn't see anything out of thr ordinary, but I'd like to investigate it further.

If you could drop me an email at the address in my profile with details of what you were putting in, I can have a look at for you.

    Thanks
