Get some other quotes before deciding how to pay. BG can be rather expensive.0

COmpare the APR on the finance agreement offered by BG, and then the APR that the banks/loans co. are offeringPromo codes are never always cheaper..... isnt that right EuropCar?0 -
firstly; do you actually need a new boiler or just a repair?
secondly get several quotes for the new boiler ; british gas are usually very expensive
thirdly consider how you are going to finance it; do you have any savings?0 -
BG charge around 18% interest via hitachi capital it would probably be cheaper to get independant quotes and take out a personal loan if the work required is urgent.0

You might try Help the Aged and see if they can offer some assistance, not necessarily monetary, but some good advice on how best to proceed. That said, you might also be able to apply for financial help towards this and Help the Aged should be able to talk you through.0

Also head over to the 'homes' board of this forum, you will get some excellent advice there from people working in the Gas sector, they will help you make sure you don't overpay but still get a good service! The very experts you were after!0

As others have said British Gas are very expensive and you will just as good if not better service from a cheaper local boiler installer. Ask around and see if anybody can recommend a company to use.
Another thing to look into is the Warm Front grant, my parents who are also pensionners, recently had a boiler installed for free as part of this scheme.

Agree. My late mother had a new boiler fitted by British Gas about three years ago and she paid £3k for it. Outrageous! I hit the roof when I found out as the boiler itself could have been bought for £700. They are so very much more expensive than other companies.
As regards Warm Front - my sister had a complete boiler fitted free by them last year. She is a pensioner (only just) and owns her own home."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -
We had a new boiler done and the BG guy priced it up quite expensive compared to a quote from a fully qualified person and i think the final bill came to £1500 or a little over, had some extra work done to accomodate the new boiler.0
