No gas meter: which company best to install new?
As title really
Moving into a house with no gas meter - but there is supply to the property.
I was about to ring British Gas to ask for a meter install but then i thought i would check here out 1st
Obviously looking to fix costs (as MSE's advice) but all the comparason sites want to know amount of current gas usage, current supplier, which tarrif on etc etc. Obviously none of the above.
Help would be appreciated.
Thanks

British Gas are a Supplier. The Gas Meter installation/repairs etc are carried out by the Service Co. who serve all the Suppliers.(It used to be Transco, don't know that they are called now).
Telephone any supplier they will advise who to contact.0 -
National Grid charge £76.02 to install a gas meter - See their pdf
However, I would assume that you should decide which energy supply company you want to use, then arrange the installation through them, they will give you a quote (it may be free when you agree to a contract)
Remember that you will get discounts for dual fuel etc.
If you use the uswitch.com website, you do not need to have previous energy usage, just select the size of property. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
have you ascertained if you have a live gas supply to the property to have a meter attached to?
The gas supplier you select to supply you will want verification in the form of either a live or dead check by the gas network in your area or mprn if it is a newly installed supply again supplied by the gas network when the put the new supply in.I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.0 -
