Does anyone know anything about top up cards for freeview?

Is anything changing with this because I was told in Currys that it was going to change. But they didn't really know.
    I wish you......
    A sunbeam to warm you,
    A moonbeam to charm you,
A sheltering angel, so nothing can harm you.
  • I brought one from aldi 10 days ago. It was £21.99 and made by tevion, with a 36-month warranty. Early days, however so far it is very good with a wide array of features, e g 2 scarts, EPG, fully interactive text, now and next etc

This was an offer from last week so might be all sold by now, but ring up and try your local stores

If you're going to use the extra channels (which you have to pay for) you will need the freeview box with the compatible slot ie. the top-up card slot, which several of the cheaper boxes , and the older boxes , do not have.
So think about this if you're planning to invest in a new box.

    I've had a few,

mid price ones (70 quid ish) - panasonic and philips, the panasonic packed up and the philips was so poor (crashing) that I took is back as faulty as the girlfriends 25 quid box didn't crash at all on the same antenna.

    cheap - bush, sagem
The bush one is terrible (I think it's also sold as alba), crashes all the time, my parents have the same one but different brand and have the same problems.

The Sagem is brilliant (I have the 2 scart version, a friend had the 1 scart version, both are good) and they have a nice radio feature. On the rare times it crashes, it seems to reboot itself and recover ok.

    Very Expensive
Just bought a humax digital video with 2 freeview decorders in, touch wood it's great so far.
