off the wagon (again)

hiya folks
im just gonna bend over and let you all give me a huge kick in the rear end
over the last 6 months i have gone and blew £1500 on my credit card can you believe it
i also bought myself a nice new car........... dont worry i quicky resold it on.
i am having such problems staying on the dfw wagon i get on and off loads of times.
today i have decided to count up all my coppers and £2 coins and total up all my debts and work out exactly how much i owe and how much i have paid as i am nearing my one year mse anniversary.
i am deeply ashamed of myself. if i had stuck to my plan i could have paid off a lot more of my debt and i definately wouldnt have added to it.
such is life though
so here i am all bend over ready for my kick in the pants.
sorry everyone from a deeply ashamed and embarrassed
mrs a
total debt jan 06= £15441.97 dfw nerd no 112 proud to be dealing with my debts.

You need to look at why you're falling off the wagon - is your original budget too tight? Are you allowing for the odd treat? Some people need to go hardline, but others do better with some moderation.

Are you rebelling against your own set limits?

You haven't been having a bad six months in any other way by any chance? Or even, not a good six months, IYSWIM.
Just that I tend to spend for comfort sometimes and wondered if that's what's going on with you.
Anyway you are back on the wagon and about to start making progress again - that's the important thing. Find another way to treat yourself, even if it's only a bubble bath or a new library book.
Wishing you all the best with it.

  • Why dont you cut up all your credit cards? cancel all overdrafts. and work with cash available only.

then you cant fall off the wagon.

Welcome back, nothing wrong with falling off the wagon occasionally, happens to everyone, sure you'll just be more determined to pick yourself back up and get back on at full steam ahead!

Stay realistic when setting yourself a budget, allow for emergencies and a little treat if you can, make yourself little targets to aim for each month instead of trying to do everything at once, and smile, it's only money and I am sure you will be sorted again in no time ;)

I also agree with the chopping cards idea, but if you REALLY need them for extreme emergencies is there someone you can trust to hold onto one just incase? Must be someone who won't give in to you (I find my Dad makes a great savings bank as he won't give me it back unless I really really need it)
One day I might be more organised...........

  • Hi Mrs A *kicks her in the rear end

I know that feeling so well, it's so hard sometimes.

Do you have supportive friends and family? Mine were the only thing keeping me on the wagon in the last 3 years.

I'm with Smashing, is your original budget too tight? That'll just annoy you even more and make you wanna just go out and blow a whole load of cash or buy a new car. Wish I could get the credit for a new car lol!
  • I cut up all my credit cards, bar one and I don't know the pin to that so can't use it in the shops and I don't shop online anyway.

Hey Mrs A, don't be 100% hard, around 60%. You've had your lightbulb, you've started paying off and you've (hopefully) made some long term changes. Don't forget what you've already achieved.

Maybe this is the time of year to sit down with the budgets again, and do a whole new SOA.
This year I'm getting organised once and for all, and going to buy a house with my wonderful other half. And that' s final!

    Hello Mrs A

Can you pin-point the triggers to you falling off the wagon? I agree with the other posters..if you can fill the "void" in a DFW way, I'm sure you'll have great success in moving forward.

Where do you think you need advice/help? Is it budgeting, cheap treats, planning for birthdays/Xmas, kids?

Tell yourself 2007 is your year and there's huge support on here for anything and everything!
    Back on the DFW Wagon:

    CC - £3,300 on 0% til 04/2020
    CC - £4,500 on 0% til 02/2019
    Loan - £12,063.84 as at 4/1/18

I agree. Take a deep breath, sit down with a cuppa and make those lists!
