Look at the bank account insurance, and if it looks like you are covered, get down the doctor to get a certificate for a claim. The Dr may want a fee for the certificate.

A fee would be a small price to pay for the return of £750.

As already said, travel insurance is probably the only way to get your money back.
In my experience, Virgin will stick to their T&C's. We had reason to change a flight a week before it was due from one with a stopover to one without, due to the passing away of my sister-in-law at our destination. Virgin said they could do nothing as she wasn't a blood relative (don't even know if that is buried in their T&C's somewhere), but fortunately our travel insurance covered it without any problem, so we got a full refund that way.

Well lovey bean, I do hope that you have declared your pre existing condition to your insurers. If not, you won't be covered!

It may not be pre-existing but just current.

So unless i have some sort of medical condition i'm waving goodbye to that money! That kind of sucks seeing as in desperate need of a cash injection.

Unfortunately, with the T&Cs they are huge. To try and find the specific information in all the legal jargon is a massive trauma in its self!

As in most things in life, ignorance is no defence, sorry ;)

This just doesn't seem right to me and Virgin have now got £450 for doing absolutly jack! How do I get my money back?

    Why isn't it right?

You paid for a cheaper ticket that had some very clear conditions attached. Pretty simple, I'd say - the website makes it clear that you have a choice of tickets.

Unless I can get a doctors note that is reviewed on a case for case basis I cannot claim this back.

I would not hold out on Virgin refunding on this basis, they will, as will most airlines, direct you to your travel insurance.

Many people will do as you did and buy a non-changeable, non-refundable ticket due to the high cost of flexible tickets. It is a gamble you take. When selecting economy(lowest) v's economy(flexible) there is a difference of over £1,200.

Its not Virgins fault you have unforseen circumstances, they're running a business and you bought a cheap ticket that allows you no changes, you should have bought the ticket that allows changes.

time to change the heading of this thread to i have bought flights and now cant go. its not a problem with virgin its your own fault you didnt by a flexible ticket or you didnt get correct insurance cover. Cant blame an airline for any of that.
