Halifax and Bank Of Scotland kept their "brands" but you could use either branch to service your account. It will eventually happen where a Lloyds account can be serviced in a Halifax branch and vice versa.
Lloyds Banking Group have closed and sold off all the old Halifax agency networks, they have also recently announced closure of many Lloyds TSB branches in the UK. It's all about money and cutting costs, paying back what they borrowed.
There are many organisations out there with seperate "brands" means nothing, it's just what people associate with a name.0 -

It really annoys me how people like you claim to speak authoritatively on matters you are clearly confused about:
Lloyds TSB, Halifax and Bank of Scotland are brands owned by Lloyds Banking Group. The brands are kept seperate and distinctive because they appeal to different kinds of customers. Lloyds Banking Group have made clear that they will not be closing any Lloyds TSB branches for the foreseeable future (http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/saving/article-1713790/New-Lloyds-boss-puts-branch-closures-on-ice.html)
Moreover, whilst Lloyds Banking Group have merged back office systems (including the Halifax/BoS counter system to work on LTSB's platform) customers cannot use other brands' branches to carry out transactions because this would defeat the whole point of marketing the brands differently.0 -

Sorry, but you state that "Customers cannot use other brands' branches" and that the Lloyds TSB, Halifax and Bank of Scotland brands are "kept seperate", but Halifax customers can use Bank of Scotland branches and vice-versa.100% G33K:D:D:D:D

Obviously, Halifax customers can use Bank of Scotland branches fully.
Use of Lloyds branches (to pay in) requires a pre-printed pay in slip but is free of charge. Use of Post Offices (to pay in) requires a pre-printed pay in slip for cash plus an envelope for cheques but is also free of charge.jonesMUFCforever wrote: »The bank has confirmed that Lloyds and Halifax will be kept as separate brands so unlikely.
IIRC, Lloyds said that about TSB initially too - I don't see the two co-existing medium - long term. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

People like me? So working 18 years in the banking industry going through several mergers and take overs, seeing close friends lose their jobs, and speaking from experience obviously means I do not know what I am talking about does it? And how is my comment authoritative?
Azrael summed up exactly my point around "brand" and the use of different branches, thanks.
Oh and has for the new boss of LBG and branch closures.....taken from Guardian June 2011.

LloydsBanking Group had originally planned to change over Halifax and Bank of Scotland's computer system to that used by LTSB this month, however, it has now been put off unitl September and might be put off again. However, it may occur after the change over as all three banks will have access to the same system and I assume account information. Certainly HBoS staff are not amused at having to learn another new system especially when they were BoS staff before the merger of Halifax and BoS.0

They are both brands in the same holding company (RBS I believe) but be careful about the term "linked". In "MSE land" that is taken to mean they operate under the same banking licence for savings protection purposes.

According to the article, for savings protection purposes, RBS and Natwest are not linked.0
