Dorset: Recommendations & discounts please...

Hi, as a family with two young children aged 6 and 1.5, we are visiting Dorset for our hols at the end of August.

If anyone can recommend anywhere to go that would be great. We know we'd like to go to Monkey World but other places too..

If anyone knows of any discounts we could get I'd really appreciate it.

Many thanks.

Go to Charmouth! They have an excellent Jurassic coast museum, you can rent hammers and hunt for fossils. The beach there is lovely. The scenery is great. We just spent a week down there. Lyme Regis is very nice, but a bit touristy. Can't recommend Charmouth enough. We camped at the camping and caravan club site there. Was wonderful.

Swanage, Charmouth, Bournemouth [which is better than Poole], Brownsea Island, next to the monkey forest is the tank museum.
Where are you staying? Take a day trip to the New Forest with a picnic and eat amongst the ponies. Portland Bill, Weymouth sea life sanctury, swanage railway, honeybrook farm, moors valley country park.

    Yeah, I grew up there.

Poole's got better beaches, better restaurants, better harbour, better theatre, better watersports, better park, better gardens, better ferry port.

Bournemouth's got better football team, better athletics track, and err, that's it.
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.

I would definitely recommend monkey world!

Weymouth - beach, amusements, sealife centre & pirate minigolf
Dorchester - Teddy bear museum, dinosaur museum, Tutankhamen museum (all of these are pretty small)
Abbotsbury - swannery and children's farm

I agree that charmouth is a nice place.

I live in dorset also :) But don't know much about bournemouth and poole

    I must admit I love Poole x
  • I spent most of my childhood in Poole and Bournemouth with family, over 18 years worth of hols down there and i really miss it. Would move down there in a heartbeat :) I prefer Poole though lol.

I have 3 boys 7, 5 and 19 months and when we holiday we have/usually do these but havnt been down in nearly 2 years so not sure if they are all running still?

Adventure wonderland in Christchurch, Farmer palmers in Poole this is one of my faves, Abbotsbury Childrens Farm in Abbotsbury, Moors valley country park in Ringwood, Heavy horse farm rescue in verwood, Putlake adventure farm in Swanage.

Lymington is lovely and go there to crab of the quay :)

I love Poole park, lots of memories there nice little park, mini train that you can sit on and it drives you around the park, have a couple of little cafes and a soft play place.

    Have a nice holiday x

  • Would def agree on adventure wonderland near christchurch right near airport!! good value big soft play if weather not good and lots to do outside animals to pet and hold pony rides (extra cost) lots of rides from pirate ship to smaller rides last august we went and peppa pig was there!!
if ur children like p.pig there is now peppa pig world near southampton prob about 30min drive from bournemoth part of paultons park which in its self is v.good

i think both of the above admit children on height so ur little one could be free at both.

falmer palmers also def worth it!!!

monkey world ok just personally my kids after the first few get a tad bored of monkeys
if you have a zoo near you at home wouldnt bother!!!

anywhere in dorset the beaches are beautiful if you look for a little town called westbourne the beach near there is called alum chine there is a park near the beach and is always immaculate and tends to be less busy if ur lucky enouh to get beach weather

    hope this helps
