Yeah, but look on the bright side: the shares in SSE that I bought back in April are up about 7% so far. :D

If you can't beat them, buy them!
I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.

We wanted to let you know that our supply partner, SSE, has announced price increases for their electricity and gas. Unfortunately, we're now going to have to review our prices too and we'll announce the result in the next few days. We'll make sure that we let all our customers know about any changes in writing at least 30 days before they take effect. Ebico

Who are your new provider? If they're immune from price rises, share all!!

The top brass in these companies probably have secret meetings where they fix the prices. They don't charge exactly the same nor do they announce their price hikes at the same time. That would give the game away. Anyway, that's what I think.

still cant figure out if the months worth of payments they give back to Atlantic customers makes it still the cheapest.

    1 month out of 12 = 100/12 percent = 8.5%

so you do better if the any new deal you find undercuts your Atlantic direct debit (*) by at least 8.5%...

(*) assuming you are not overpayment/underpaying much, in which case use the amount you should be paying.

They don't need to - there is so little competition that if one company puts up prices then the rest can follow - no formal meetings required, just an acknowledgment that the market will pay the price it can bear and for utilities it can bear alot if companies pretty much stick together.
