Hi,
I have just opened a community account with Barclays and this is all totally new to me. There are 2 signatories on the account and I need to write a few cheques for various things but I'm not sure if we both need to sign.
I know this is a ery basic question and I would have thought 2 signatures would be required however, there only seems to be space for 1 signature so I just wanted to check with you guys before I start giving out bad cheques
Thank You.

Yes you will need to signatures on every cheque issued. the signatures can be next to each other as long as you dont go over the bottom area of the cheque0 -
Thank you.
I thought that would be the case but the size of the signing area just confused me a bit.:o0 -
Talking of which, does anyone know of a central telephone number that deals with Community Account banking?
Barclays seem to be making it as awkward as possible to contact anyone to sort out signatory changes or even just get statements sent to a new address. No one in the branches seems to know anything and the website seems worse than useless.0 -
I wouldn't assume you need two. It depends how the account is set up. Having two signatories could mean both need to sign each cheque, or it could just mean that either of them could sign a cheque.
It's the best policy in these circumstances to have the first, but as you aren't sure, check with the bank and have this put in place if necessary.
And then just squeeze both sigs in next to each other.Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j

Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.0
