NPower Spreading Warmth

I am on NPower's Spreading Warmth tariff until February 2012 I think as that is when my youngest child will be 16. Do I stay on it until then and hope I can get a cheap tariff or change now? Am really worried as am on a very low income at the moment.

  • As you're on a social tariff you're probably best staying on that. Usually suppliers delay increase on these tariffs and keep them 15 - 20% cheaper than standard offerings. The ukpower website (this site won't let me add a link and I don't work for them) has the facility to compare your Spreading Warmth tariff to other available deals, you'll need your annual usage before comparing though. Check your bills or ask npower for this info if you're unsure.

IF you have any outstanding debt on your account and are struggling to make your payments then contact npower to see if they can help. Sometimes suppliers can write off debt on an account (they actually have money aside for social schemes), it's best that an account has regular payments to seperate the can't pay from the won't pay customers to be eligible.

Call the Spreading Warmth number if you need assistance, or have any queries. I think it's on their website and you should have this as a Spreading Warmth customer

If your gross household income is under £13500 you would still qualify. Unfortunately there doesnt appear to be a site that actualy compares assisted tariffs with each other, so if you need to switch it might be a case of having to check other companies individually.

Thank you, didn't realise I would still be eligible that's a weight off my mind.

Social tariffs won't exist by the time you contract ends so start looking for a new supplier at the start of next year.

Do you have a link for this by any chance? I am also on the Spreading Warmth tariff and have not received notification from npower. Nor can I find any other information to confirm that it is coming to an end.

I always understood that this tariff had no particular time limit.

    Thanks in advance.

Try this from the cartel committee:

Energy companies will do their best to prevent accepting customers onto social tariffs with all sorts of excuses that are not backed up by information on their websites. In npowers case, they say the are 'over quota'.

Thanks but this seems to only to apply to the acceptance of new customers, not existing customers such as myself and OP.

However is does appear the situation may change in the future
Over the next four years, suppliers may transfer some customers on their current social tariff or rebate schemes onto the WHD but it is likely that some of the customers on suppliers’ existing social and discounted tariffs will not be eligible for the Broader Group of the Warm Home Discount scheme.

I dont therefore see why OP would need to
start looking for a new supplier at the start of next year.

The warm Homes discount will be replacing the Social tariffs of all suppliers. this means each supplier will have a cut off date to accepting new customers and also for ending the others already on it.
