Building Control decline Completion Cert on Extension

i think if you are altering an existing building and adding an extension the regulations should be applied where "reasonably practicable" - fire safety is one they are never happy to relax on as it's very easy to install fire safety equipment as per the regulations.
as far as i'm aware regs only allow for mains wired smoke and heat detectors now so that's not really an argument, and just because he hadn't mentioned it before doesn't mean much, the builder (if it was done on a notice) or the designer (on a warrant) should have known what complying with regs entailsThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. Once had a run in with a numptie Building Inspector from York Council.
We had a bungalow and had converted the loft for use as a living room, being as we were going up one floor the regs stated no fire doors needed providing the room was not used as a bedroom. Mr !!!!!! came and straight away said "I want a fire door on there", we tried to explain that it was not needed but he insisted "door or it doesnt get signed off", we did some digging and got in touch with the local fire officer who backed us up, so we wrote to the head of building control who also agreed with us and profusely apologised for his officers mistake.
2 hours after that call from the council the building control officer was knocking on our door apologising and had the completion cert ready done. You may click thanks if you found my advice useful0 -
Issue today came between alarm manufacturers and building control officer. Building control officer told me to fit Ioniser alarm on landing, manufacturers technical dept said to fit Optical on landing (Landing small & alarm would be awfully close to bathroom). Building control backed down on that one & confirmed I should follow manufacturers instructions. (AICO) now advise to fit ionisers in bedrooms due to false alarms outside bathrooms, and optical on small landings0
