... I have a unemployment marker on my account as I was unemployed over 7 months...

Did you tell them that? If not how did they find out? Having added the marker what is their process for removing it? Why wasn't it removed when you resumed funding the account?

That is the *only* issue I would pursue and I would pursue it relentlessly through the complaints procedure.

the adding of the marker is done automatically (or it was in my case when i was made redundant and out of work for 3 months last year) the system picks up if the account is receiving payments such as job seekers etc

i found out as when i was in branch for something, they noticed that some of my details had not been updated so asked if they could check them (think that they didnt have miss or mrs on there, and something else, cant remember what it was) and they asked if i was now in work and so advised i was and they changed it, it was then that she advised that the systems pick it up if can see credits from Department of work and pensions etc. Apparently the customer profiles are reviewed monthly or so but can take a while for the marker to be removed (apparently its delayed incase only short term work, or just a payment from old employer etc)

Now this seems really odd to me I dont need or want the perks of a Premier Account but I was told this was the only way to raise my overdraft limit.

Sign of the times. Current account banking is not free and has been cross subsidised for many years in this country. To recoup the lost income generated by PPI. Lloyds appears to be forcing customers to pay an account fee whether they use the overdraft facility or not.

    Hi

My situation ATM is that my wage is coming in 2 days later than I need to pay my rent.

You need to think of it as rent due 29 days after you get paid and ditch the overdraft.

More than likely it was the advisor who was mistaken.

Their standard Vantage current account is free (no monthly fee), and you get a £500 OD limit, never use it but it's always good to know it is there just in case.

I had a Classic Vantage account with Lloyds TSB - and an Overdraft Limit of £3,000.

The advisor was saying that only Premier comes with a fee free overdraft of £500. Classic would charge £5 / Month + interest for any overdrawn balance, Premier only if you go over £500 OD. I think Gold is £100 and Platinum is £250, fee free. You can still have overdrafts far higher than this on the account - they just come with fees if you use them.
