National Trust Temp Membership Card

Hi Everyone

I am going on holiday in a couple of weeks and plan to sign up for NT membership, I suspect they wont send out the pack in time for us to go away, I know online you get emailed a temporary card but do you know how long this lasts for as I dont want it to run out when we are away
thanks

Friends of ours signed up online and their pack arrived in 5 days. We signed up at a National Trust property and our pack took over 3 weeks to arrive, but they gave us a temporary card when we signed up. HTH

We got NT membership last year and it took about a month to get my card and pack through the post, they did however send an email confirmation of membership and I used this to gain access.

This week I took out membership with the Scottish National Trust (we're holidaying there this year) and they said it will be 2 weeks until I get my membership pack but they have emailed a temporary card over which looks identical to the normal membership card which is great because I can start using it next week with the kids holidays starting.

if its 3months thats great, we had membership last year and I remember it took about 6weeks to arrive, will set this up few days before we travel to make it last a little longer :-)

Going to use topcashback as marginally more cashback but they dont charge the £5 fee quidco do so I tend to use them instead, have found a code somewhere on her to get rucksack and kids stuff free and 12mths for price of 9.

I've been a past member of the NT for many years. I went to rejoin last week and emailed the NT to ask how long temp membership lasts.

The reply I got back concerned me to the point I decided not to join.

I was told it is up to the individual property if they wanted to let us in with temp membership until our cards arrived.

IF we paid, all we would get back ( after filling in a form), was NT gift vouchers.

Although the clause below is not specific to temp membership, it still hints at the issue above.

My cards still haven't arrived, but I have my old (or temporary) ones. What do I do when I want to visit Trust properties?
If your membership card is lost or stolen please contact the Membership Department on 0844 800 1895 or by email: enquiries@nationaltrust.org.uk for a replacement card to be issued.
If you arrive at a property without your card you will be asked to pay an admission fee, even if you have simply forgotten your card. Annual and life Member can however return their admission tickets in exchange for some National Trust vouchers, less an admin fee. Simply explain to the member of staff at the property that you are member but that you are without your card, and they will help you to complete a 'member without card claim form'
Once completed, the form is submitted to the Membership Department along with your admission tickets, for compensation in the form of National Trust gift vouchers to be issued. (Vouchers issued are to the nearest value of the standard admission paid, minus a £2 administration charge).

Thats not good is it :-(

I did read the above clause but took it to mean that the temp membership card had expired and you hadnt got the full membership cards yet. When I have used temp cards previously I had no problems getting access to Belton House, but thats the only place we used them so dont know about others.
Would be interesting to see if anyone had been refused entry, I would not be happy if I had driven to a place and told I had to pay after paying membership already

I spoke to the NT people and they said they had a delay on sending out the cards; and the temp cards [emailed] were ok for 3 months from the start date even though it said a month on mine [April].

Mine came the day after I rang anyway.....so just take your printed temp card with you. If in doubt, don't pay, get them to check on the system as you don't want NT vouchers.

I went through quidco and got 12 months for 10 plus cashback. I've already got my money's worth this year.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

I applied last monday (online) and received the pack today, including a nice rucksack and kiddie plant seeder. I was surprised how quickly it came.

I dont think many sites are that strict, went to one recently in Devon and only had one card with us, for two adults, no one even commented..
