Primus on the way down?

  • Well, just to update people on here - I now have a court judgment by default against them for £1276.58 for breach of contract. :rotfl:

This Monday just gone, they agreed to pay, and now they are not going to, and have referred the matter to the Company Solicitors.

In the meantime, I've had the court forms back from their Registered Office as recorded at Companies House as "Gone Away"

Does anyone happen to know who the Company Solicitors or the Legal Counsel is?

Also, anyone in Burnley fancy serving papers on them for me? :A

    Thanks all

theloft probably meant Primus Saver Option 2 - which was the CPS service recommended by Martin a few years ago. For no monthly fee, it gave (still gives me) free evening and weekend calls of up to 90 minutes each to UK 01 and 02 numbers.

Being a true CPS service (before the dreaded WCLI came on the scene) it allowed (still allows me) the use of the 1280 prefix to 'hop back onto BT' for specific calls* and, with the line rental still with BT, meant that the likes of 18185 could still be used as well.

*My Orchid is still programmed to insert that prefix for my weekend 01/02/03 calls so that I make at least the necessary 2 calls per month via BT to qualify for free Caller Display.

Agreed, and I have no problems with Primus CPS (or 18185 either).

BTW My Orchid 'weekend' starts 7pm Friday and goes to 8am Monday ;)

If you have Primus Saver, weekend should start at 6pm.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

No, my evenings start at 6pm every weekday including Friday (Primus Saver), but my weekend starts at 7pm Friday (BT via 1280) ;)
  • Does anyone have statistics about how long it takes to connect to Primus helpline?
My phone went dead yesterday, I tried several times to get through (VOIP, broadband is with a different provider) and when I did I was told my line had a fault. When I got home about 5pm the phone worked so I thought Problem solved. When I tried at 7pm the line was dead again. Now I cannot contact them to find out if the fact my phone was working at 5pm means they think the fault has been solved.

I use Orchid dialler with Primus/18185/BT

Excuse my ignorance here. But I don't understand either rationale.
    • Given 18185 does not really have such timebands.
    • BT has 7pm/7am weekday offpeak and midnight weekend time bounds.
    • Primus: I don't have their timebound info . Sorry?

Should the weekends not start/stop at the midnight boundary.
    And evenings start/stop at 7pm/7am?
I think I am missing something here.

    Tks,
    Mark

If you're on a legacy Primus CPS tariff, your 'evenings' start at 6pm and end at 8am.

The use of BT (via the 1280 prefix) at weekends, although not really necessary (they're free on Primus CPS and inclusive on BT), is to ensure sufficient calls to 'qualify' for free Caller Display are made via BT.

Orchid programming for Friday evenings and the weekend therefore routes 01/02/03 calls:

6pm to midnight - Primus CPS
Midnight Friday to midnight Sunday - BT
Midnight Sunday to 8am Monday - Primus CPS
    From 8am Monday - 18185
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Indeed. I am a very old Primus (CPS) customer. So old I have forgotten the details which I guess would have answered my own question.

I am paying for caller ID to BT. So something is not working. I had read somewhere that it was not good enough to just route two calls a month to get Caller ID for free. You had to also actively opt in to some "Privacy" scheme as well. Have you come across this?

Apart from that your logic makes perfect sense sense now .

    Tks,
    Mark

Yes, it's called BT Privacy and, apart from Caller Display, it registers you with TPS if you are not already registered.

    Call 0800 121 8000.

Just instruct the court to send the bailiffs round!
