Tps

I am registered with telephone preference service and keep checking that my number is still registered, and despite the fact that it is, I am still being inundated with unsolicited nuisance calls, especially for solar panels and payment protection insurance claims, the latter of whom claim that they are government sanctioned and are not covered by TPS. I have tried to complain to the TPS, but they can only do something if I can get caller info or name of company and they often will not give details once you have said you are member of TPS. can anyone help please.

    Yes.

Get their name and details before you mention TPS.

Let them finish talking and politely ask where they are calling from. I have never come across a situation where I have not been told this. As Azari says, it is after this that I tell them I am registered with TPS. To be fair, most British companies do take note of that, and it does prevent further calls. Or at least it does in my experience anyway.

Yes - And I'm amazed at the number of cold callers who suddenly develop an impenetrable speech impediment whenever you ask who they represent.

TBH, TPS can only be effective against the small proportion of companies who play by the rules. Far too many of them don't care and commission calls from well out of UK legal range via agents or a chain other 3rd parties who also operate where the TPS can't effectively get hold of them.

Then there are the outright scammers who don't care one-whit either way.

The TPS is rapidly becoming totally ineffective. I have found the best thing to be an answer machine.
Every phone call I get now I look at the phone display, if I know the number, I answer it. If I don't know it, I let it go into the answer machine; 99% of the time the call ends there. If it is a genuine call I can pick it and answer it when they start to leave a message.

I had a 'phone call the other week from Currys regarding a delivery, when I answered the call, the lady laughed, and said: "screening your calls, eh ?"
