I have only being browsing MSE but have registered to answer your question.
Aylesham is a few miles from where I live. It is not a very nice area, it has a high crime rate, the local pub closed down a few years ago never to be reopened, the few local shops have bars on the windows.
But there are some very nice people that do live there, but the area is let down by the majority.
Houses are cheap but unless you are born and bred in the area you would not enjoy living there.0 -
Ex coal mining village.
Where are you now, and what is your search area?Been away for a while.0 -
Oh blimey thank goodness I asked!!
Gutted though because it does look lovely on google although there had to be a good reason for the prices!!
Thankyou so so much for registering so you could tell me, thats really kind.
I currently live in Orpington in Kent (in the not nice place!, the Crays) and am just looking at different options at the moment.
Im' really struggling at the moment financially and am really worried whats going to happen to my interest only, self certified mortgage deal when it needs renewing next year!
I'm a single mum, working fulltime but for not a huge salary, mum with a £145K mortgage round my neck. House is worth £200 maybe so am looking at ways of getting some cash out and living more cheaply
Oh well back to the drawing board but again thankyou so much for your replies :T0 -
If you are careful, there are some nice parts of Medway. And some good surrounding villages are not too dear.
Sittingbourne tends to be affordable due to lots of new houses. I always wanted to live in Faversham, but couldn't find a job nearby.
This looks like a bargain if you can handle some work:

Not a bad area either.Been away for a while.0 -
Worth checking what your mortage will go to when the deal expires. It may be better than other deals you could get currently.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0

there are some decent areas in medway, rainham, rochester etc. slightly out of medway is upchurch lower halstow and newington, all nice. Bredhurst hemsptead, wigmore are nice. in any area there are always pockets of roads you wouldn't want to live.0
