Consultation Period & Salary Reduction

Afternoon,
The company I work for has just gone through a consultation period, due to a proposed re-structure with a number of roles being reduced.
I have been told during a consultation meeting, that as a result of the restructure, the new role would be on a lower salary than the one I am currently on.
I'm assuming that they can do this as the new roles are similar but not identical, but what processes do they need to go through to do this? As far as I am aware, it is only myself who would be expected to have a pay reduction.
Thanks in advance

If they are saying it is not the same role, but a suitable alternative and you don't think it this then redundancy is a potential option.
How different is the role inc renumeration?
would you be interetsted in redundacy0 -
I'd estimate that the new role would be 70% the same, with the rest of the time being new tasks. I did ask for a written job description for the new role, but they haven't got one.
The pay cut is a shade under 17%, but there are several of us in the pool and I believe only my salary would be changed (when I started I had a slightly different role)
If I opted for the new role, should it be on the 4 weeks trial basis and deemed to be an alternative role to redundancy?
My current thinking is to take the pay cut and start job hunting for something else.0
