Unfortunately not money saving - just a warning.....
Easyjet have just emailed me asking for Gordon's Green tax for flights I booked months ago.....
I really wouldn't mind if the tax was spent on a truly green issue - not punitive, cynical cheap money harvesting

It amazes me how much of the British population have this attitude towards taxes. The opinion that it's just a little bit, so don't worry about it, is exactly how they push these through. However, in the end, you end up with a very large tax burden because of all these things.
The term is "nickel and diming". I guess that is why UK is one of the higher tax nations and our products cost so much!
History has proven that governments are not efficient with money to provide services. Free market forces are the most efficient, but tend toward only optimal profit and consumption. For areas where the free market results are counter to what is good for society, that's where government can counter. However, trying to have government be a player in the free market economy to provide services has been proven inefficient.0 -

think you completely missed the point..... yet another stealth tax -
get used to it - when Gordon gets in there'll be more and more of this.
Have you ever looked at how much of what you earn goes in tax - direct and indirect - from income through poll to car (purchase, road fund license etc etc), clothes, meal out, fuel (fuel!!!!), alcohol...........
In fact - good question. On average - how much of what we earn does HMG take from us on a weekly basis...?0 -

I believe that it comes out to around 1/3 for a married couple earning the average salary.0 -
its doubling the current tax.....so £10 for domestic and short European flights
but up to £80 for longhaul....0 -

Serves you right for asking....
As you said earlier - there's a LONG list of stuff which a lot of people never consider (biggy you missed was NI - employers+employees is higher than basic rate tax).
We're (well not US obviously) getting a bit too easy to spin - saw a survey the other week where a majority of respondents "correctly" guessed that inflation was below 3%. I would be more inclined to correctly guess that the most widely reported inflation number was CPI...0
