Failure to stop after an accident

Hi, I received a letter from the Police on Saturday saying I was involved in an incident with another car (on a roundabout) and failed to stop or exchange details. I was completely unaware that I had had an accident therefore didn't stop - neither did I hear any bipping or flashing of headlights to indicate that there had been an incident. I apparently changed lanes cutting someone up and hitting their passenger front side. There is damage to the rear bumper on the drivers side but we thought that had occurred whilst parked in a car park (has happened a couple of times where people open their door and scrape our car!). I am writing back saying all this but don't know where I stand. I have made my insurance company aware but my legal doesn't cover any court expenses (should it go to court) as it is my word against theirs! Has anyone come across this? I am completely terrified about this as I need my car to drive to work. I have never been involved in an accident or have points on my license.

Go to pepipoo.com and post this on there as well please.I don't know if they can help but if anyone can they can. This has all the signs of an inbsurance scam. You can bet there is an ""independent"" witness (who is likely to be in on the scam)

I can't believe you'd be able to hit another vehicle whilst moving yourself without noticing! Even the smallest of prangs makes a right racket. Stand your ground and get some decent advice. As PTP suggests, try pepipoo.

And its always at a junction or roundabout and there's always an independent witness. Whats the likelihood of that on a busy roundabout and a slight ding.

Im shocked you failed to notice you had an accident, Ive never had someone open a door in a carpark
and hit my bumper and leave a scrape, Dents & chips but not a scrape on the bumper.

Legal advice is a must, You dont want to be done for driving without due care and attention as well.

I think between 5 and 10 Points on your licence is most likely and a couple of hundred £ fine. Insurance afterwards will be
    expensive.

Get legal advice urgently. How long ago was the accident date?

    Hi
Something similar happened to us last year when DH received a notice out of the blue. We were advised by friends to take photographs of our vehicle as soon as possible -from all angles - to show the condition of the car. In our case, no sign of any damage. Eventually we were notified that the police could find no evidence to support the claim - but it was worrying at the time.
