XP should just detect it and install it...

    perhaps it is faulty

When you plugged it in at first, did a little balloon pop up at the system tray (bottom right hand corner of screen) saying "New Hardware Found" ?

It should then have brought up a little wizard for installing the USB Mass Storage drivers, simply clicking "Next" all the way through that would install it and providing it's working correctly you should then have a new "Removable Disk" appear in "My Computer".

If it isn't doing this when plugged in then I think it could be faulty.
  • no it's not ? will try taking it back thanks for your help!!!!

Try a different USB port or 2 before you take it back.
