we really like Scarborough, it's a lot nicer than Blackpool and has less hustle and bustle. There's a fantastic chippy there called Crossley's, just down from the town centre. Lovely fish they cook there, and it's very clean inside.
Hoping to go to Scarborough for a day trip next month, that chippy will be one of the first port of calls too. Nom Nom Nom.

Oh and the toilets are 40p a time on the seafront (20p for kids). :D

Q:What can we do in Scarborough ?
A: Sit in the sun .

Q: What if there is no sun ?
A: Sit in the rain, then.

    Scarborough provides family entertainment.
Theatre called - Stephen Joseph In the Round
Also another theatre for summer turns - The Futurist

    Normal seaside activities

Inland : Pickering steam railway (to Whitby)
    Malton A64 - Eden Park

York - The jewel in the Crown for shopping & other activities
    National Railway Museum etc

best to drop into Scarborough library & collect lots of leaflets or the Tourist Info centre.

Scarborough is never going to compete with the Costas. Its a kiss me quick seaside town. Theres a lot of effort gone into the town in recent years however.:T

Scarborough is so underrated. Its fab really. More class than Blackpool. So maybe not as much to do, but Scarborough was the first ever "seaside" resort. Its fab, yeah probably do it in a day, but its great. The kids will enjoy it if you have deep pockets !!! ENJOY

Peasholm Park is better than the amusement arcades. There's also a mini railway.

Peasholm Park is worth a visit and a boat ride around the boating lake. Scarborough has a lovely beach perfect for children to make endless sandcastles.

Lots of things to do. I used to go every year as a child.
I cannot see how it can be compared with Blackpool. Scarborough is cleaner and does not have hen/stag drunkards walking around.

In the evening we normally go crabbing around the harbour, which my kids love. We throw the crabs back in.
    Lots of shops to visit.
Lots of restaurants and food outlets for everyones tastes.

    Pah, overpriced and overrated.

Stop at Triton's on the A64 just before you get to York to try really good fish & chips.

If the kids are happy on the beach I suggest you try Filey or even Whitby, both are nicer than Scarborough IMHO

We went to Scarborough last year (DH, ME, 12 and 8yo) and we loved it - go to the south beach and walk along the beach huts - it's lovely. Ok, so we got covered in sand and it did rain as we were packing up on the beach, but that's all part of the experience!
As for fish and chips, you can't beat Robin Hoods bay - buy them at the takeaway tucked down a side street, then eat them on the rocks overlooking the bay. Fantastic!

Oooh I forgot about that fish and chip shop in Robin Hoods Bay. They were delicious when we went last year.

We have a nice chippy in Scarborough at crossgates I go there once a week and go to other end of town to get there because its worth it, its cooked to order not refried or kept warm. Magpie @ Whitby is over rated and over priced, £175 for chips to take out I pay £1.30 in Scarborough and they great not a bad one amongst them. Plenty of chippies on front not sure how good they are as I dont often walk along sea front.

If you come to Scarborough go to Harbour bar on sea front its famous for ice cream and coffee, its close to beach and harbour
