Staying outside London

Hi,

Just wondered if anyone could help.

I'm wanting to take the kids to London for a few days.

We don't want to drive or have to find parking in London, so thought it might be best to stay just outside London and take the train in everyday.

Could anyone recommend an area to stay that's accessible for London by train (not tube, wheelchair access needed) preferably with station car parking.

You don't have to rule out the tube. You can get a tube map at http://www.tfl.gov.uk/gettingaround/14091.aspx which shows all the stations with wheelchair access.

most tubes have wheelchair access. they have to.

but if you really want to stay outside london, the kent area that adjoins london is as good as any. and mega quick into london as well. or somewhere in the north london area, enfield etc but prices there are almost on par with central london. have a look at staying in university accomodation. they let it now that the students have gone and can be a real bargain.

No they don't - check out the 'step free tube' guide in giraffe69's post above.

You could look at staying by Watford Junction train station as there is a fast train into London Euston that takes 15-20 minutes. I just had a look at the station and it seems to be ok for wheelchair users and has a car park. Kids under 11 will travel free as it is on the London overground route. £14.50 for an adult one day off peak (purchased aft 9.30am weekdays) Travelcard that covers travel from Watford Junction and all buses and tubes in London. Children aged 11-15 pay £9.50 for the same TC.

You could look at Jurys Inn which is nearby or the Holiday Inn. HI 2for1 night link.

  • I'd agree about going for the Kent sort of end, mainly because the right train will bring you into Charing Cross which is smack bang in the middle of the West End and so you'll be a lot closer to the main sights than if you come into Euston.
