If the mfr's warranty was 12 months then they have no further obligation to you. Tesco on the other hand do. After 6 months you have to prove that the problem is an inherent fault and that Tesco are obliged to deal with under SODA. If you can prove that it has broken down due to no fault of yours then they should repair it free.0

Contact Tesco customer service and advise them that you are aware of your rights under the Sale of Goods Act. If they still don't offer to replace it then contact Trading Standards and they will have it sorted within a week for you.0

On what basis?
SOGA requirement is as Andy's post - the OP needs to prove fault given it is over 6 months old.Thinking critically since 1996....0 -

Yes the OP will have to prove fault by getting the manufacturers recommended service engineer to examine or fix the machine.0 -

In my reasonable knowledge of this, having gone through it several times, the retailer has the right to demand that the machine is examined by the manufacturers recommended engineer. In my case what happened was (on several occasions) the manufacturer was contacted and a local engineer who was recommended by them turned up to examine, report and if possible, repair the machine. This had to be paid for but the costs were re-imbursed by the retailer.
Either repair or replacement are acceptable under the terms of SOGA. If the fault reoccurs then replacement becomes the most likely option.
I find that contact with Trading Standards is the best way to get the desired result because some retailers seem determined to abrograte their responsibilites by denying that any warranty exists or that the fault is caused by "wear and tear".0
