why do we have to pay to see our credit scores?

I don't see how this can be justified. Surely companies like Experian charge credit companies for the use of their information, why should they be allowed to charge us to see the information they have about us?

I think £2 to obtain a copy of your credit report is extremely good value and wouldn't knock it ! It's hardly covering the costs involved for the CRA's.

Any charge to obtain a credit score is worth as much as the score itself and that is nothing.

    Which is exactly what ?

The CRA's have overheads to cover each individual report. Why should card companies pay for that and who says that they do ?

There are numerous ways to obtain it FOC if it really bothers you.

Card companies should pay for it because they are the ones who use the information.

No-one should have to pay for the "privilege" of seeing what personal information Experian or any other CRA hold on them - the CRAs are the huge companies making massive profits on keeping information, accruate or inaccurate, on the exploited public. The CRAs are clear that they have little interest in us except to make money out of us - if you challenge inaccurate info they just bat you back to "their" client who provided the inaccurate info in the first place and after a lot of obstruction eventually agree to place a generic notice of dispute when "their client" fails to bother to respond. £2 being "extremely good value" - nonsense. Like the OP says, you're missing the point!!

Nothing from the CRAs is "extremely good value", its all profiteering off the public - why? Because they can, of course!!!

    Just because I don't agree doesn't mean I'm missing the point ! £2 is a fair charge !!!

CRA's are not legally permitted to amend information off their own back, only the company who provided the information can change it unless there has been an administrational error by the CRA. Your argument about changing information is wrong and worthless.

No-one should have to pay for a passport, an ID card, dental treatment etc but most have to even though they contribute thousands in taxes and NI ! It's life and what makes Great Britain Great !! CRA's are hardly profiteering by charging a statutory £2.

If that's all you can reply with then you have no point ! At least give reasons and facts to back up your argument !

Because why should they be able to hold data on you that may not be correct, and which could affect your ability to get credit?

I think the law should be changed on this.
