Problems leaving Tiscali?

For the last few days I have either been unable to access Tiscali emails, or when I do get in it is painfully slow. Even for Tiscali, it's a hopeless service.
I have read horror stories about what can go wrong with attempts to switch to a new provider. Does anyone have any experience of this?

I had no problems leaving Tiscali. Just ring the number and ask for your MAC number.
The person on the other end of the phone started to ask why I wanted to leave, and what they could do to make me stay. I just made it plain that I was leaving and there was nothing they could do about it. She "Oh, in that case your MAC will be emailed to you, but it can take 24-48 hours to arrive."
It arrived in less than 45 minutes.0
