Hey,
Discovered this site by accident today. Basically allows you to stay in university halls as an alternative to booking a hotel and the prices are very reasonable. Availability is mainly limited to summer and easter holidays but managed to find rooms in central London for £18 per night.
http://en.universityrooms.co.uk/
This website is part of the UniversityRooms group, itself part of the Travel Booking Network.
Every summer there is a mass of university rooms vacated in colleges and halls of residence around the world. The vision behind UniversityRooms is to make those rooms available to individuals and groups who are looking for accommodation, whilst also contributing to the upkeep of universities and helping subsidise student rates.
For universities, this can be a useful supplement to conference and summer school business. For travellers, this presents an affordable and convenient accommodation option, an opportunity to experience life within a university and benefit from use of the factilities.
Since 2007 we have built a portfolio of 34 UK universities who use our services. In 2010, we added our first European universities in Spain and Italy, and since then we have added France, Belgium, Switzerland, Canada, USA, Australia and New Zealand to the list. Over the next few years we hope to gradually add more colleges and universities throughout the world. We are committed to both a long-term relationship with our universities and the long-term success of this service.

this looks great esp if you are a single traveller (not so many double rooms as you'd expect). Slightly cheaper than standard hotels (much cheaper if single room w/o ensuite) but not so impersonal or samey. Also, many include breakfast. Not sure what they are like but like the thought you also get cooking facilities.0

A US friend and I stayed in Wadham College, Oxford for a night, a couple of weeks ago. Single en suite each, with breakfast in the old Hall. £60 each well spent, wonderful room, brand new bathroom. Doing Cambridge next time she comes over.Paddle No 21 :wave:0

My son stayed at Canterbury University for one night - £45ish for single room inc breakfast. It's a bit of a walk and a steep hill from Canterbury itself, but good accommodation.0
