British Grant £1million pound email scam

This is my first time on this forum, so I hope I'm doing this right?

I received an email supposedly from 10 Downing Street, saying I had won a million pounds. They asked for my home address details, age and phone number, which I know they can get anyway from the electoral register and by other means.

I replied to the email to see what the scam was.

The second email they sent said that they could send it by BACS for £270.00, or they could send it to me by special courier for £195.00.

This money could not be deducted from my winnings, but had to be sent by me directly to them. There's the scam.

So beware of this email.

Thanks for posting. ;) But if I were you, I would not have replied to what is an obvious scam email, as the scammers now know that your email account is active, and you have left yourself open to getting many more

Yep, if you're going to reply best to do it from a disposable email account.

Have some fun at the expense of the scammers

If this is the first scam email you've received you are very lucky. You are also likely to receive messages from:

Your bank that your account has been locked
HMRC offering you a tax rebate
African dictators giving a share of their fortune
Long lost relatives with massive inheritances
Dying Middle Eastern businessmen needing to offload funds to charity

There are also plenty of scams online for cut price electrical goods and other fake merchandise.

So be very careful and treat any unsolicited email as a scam unless you can prove otherwise.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

Unless you are a close friend of David Cameron, you have to think why you would be getting an email from 10 Downing Street ! Joking aside, it's never wise to open any email if you don't know where it's come from, not even to see what the "scam" is, it's dangerous ! Fridaycat is spot on !

Slightly over exaggerating dont you think. don't open an email if you dont know where it comes from?? Why? Will the email self destruct in 10 seconds?

Use caution by all means but scaremongering is fruitless. The OP may now be !!!!!!!! themselves because of your post when they have no need to.

Just remember, Cameron only sends demands for money. Never gives it away!

These seem to be the most popular from my experience lately. Just this week I've received emails supposedly from every one of the high street banks, which all look exactly the same apart from the bank logo at the top, and also 3 HMRC tax rebates.

  • Thanks for all the msgs. I've had a number of scam emails over the years. Most are filtered to junk. The scammers are getting better each time. I might write to Mr Cameron or Mr Osborne and ask if I can have my winnings in cash. I wonder if there is enough monopoly money. lol
