NHS job site - adverts taken down after 1 day

I've noticed that several adverts I have looked at have been taken down after only a day or two advertised even when they have closing dates a few weeks in the future. Now I know they can end the advert early if they get enough suitable candidates but I really don't think after a day they've had enough applicants and the time to go through and select that they are decent enough close the advert.
My suspicions are that they have an internal candidate lined up for the job and just need to fulfil the HR specifications of advertising it externally. Do you think my suspicions may be correct?

I suppose it depends on the job you went for.
When I went for an interview for a job through the NHS website I noticed that the jobs I looked at said if it was internal applicants only.
Specifically the job I went for we were told that internal restructuring was done before the adverts went out.0 -
The NHS is understandably a very popular employer.
Certain jobs get a lot of applications very quickly, especially administrative/ lower grade jobs.
About 6 months ago, my department advertised for an administrator and we received over 50 applications in 24 hours, so closed the job very quickly.0 -

If you've already applied for a job through the site then all your details are prefilled on any new applications so, considering you can be emailed matching vacancies as they go live its quite plausible that they get inundated with applictions within a day.
What sort of role are you after?0 -

Most adverts have a limit set for the number of applications. Once that limit has been reached, then the advert is closed regardless of the closing date first listed on the advert.
As someone who works for the NHS in a hideous job, I've been frustrated to see a job advertised at lunchtime that isn't there when I get home to apply for it.
Some have disappeared within an hour of going up - such is the popularity.
*sigh* Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway... :huh:0 -
Something I noticed when I previously worked in the NHS was that they would occasionally advertise a job with a closing date for that very same day. I was always too busy to complete the application whilst sitting at my desk...and I wasn't paid to write job applications anyway, I was paid to work. There was no hope at all of getting home in time to get it done as invariably the job would close at 5.00pm. I challenged HR about it but just got ignored.
When I last worked for the NHS I was there via an agency. They made my job "permanent" and advertised it internally only. However since I was there via an agency I wasn't allowed to apply. Then they had the cheek to make me do a handover to the person who was appointed. That person's job was then advertised internally only as well, so while I was languishing on the dole I couldn't even apply for that. No wonder people go a bit batty working there.0 -
You need to have the blurb all written ready to paste in when a job comes up. I kept a copy of each blurb I wrote so that a quick adjustment was all that was needed for the next one. I've now got an NHS job but it's maternity cover only so I will be back looking myself shortly.0

I know of 2 occasions where a NHS job has been advertised for a particular person.
First case was someone who was of interest who missed to cut off by one day, the advert was put out again for an hour so the person could apply (there were several vacancies in this instance) .
The other was someone for whom they had created a special vacancy. It again was put out for a very short time.0 -
I'm actually helping my girlfriend find another job within the nhs as we're relocating (or at least I am so far). She is currently a medical secretary so wants to do something similar - admin/secretarial. She went up yesterday for an interview for one of the jobs that was only advertised for a day and it sort of raised my suspicions a bit more as they didn't even seem to be aware that she was currently working and that she had travelled 2.5 hours to get there. It was almost as if they hadn't even read her application.0

Last year I had 150 applications for a band 3 post in a day. My colleague had 350 for a band 4. I've also had as little as 47 in 6 days.
It depends on the job and volume of applications."This is a forum - not a support group. We do not "owe" anyone unconditional acceptance of their opinions."0
