yep... just got the call this morning :( gutted, but at least i'm not stranded anywhere. just can't book anything to replace it until i get the money back, which according to ATOL website takes around 28 WORKING days... so will be longer than as they will be getting lots of claims through.

Just on the phone to my credit card provider (Natwest) to see if claiming back through them is faster, although it was booked through an agent (Jetline - who were useless and just tried to push me into booking another holiday rather than helping with useful facts and just answering my questions)

So gutted though, our first holiday in nearly 2 years, and first proper summer holida in about 5 years! (we normally just do cheapy city breaks to Amsterdam once a year and haven't even done that for ages now!)

UPDATE - Natwest credit card people say i can't claim unless ATOL refuses to pay out, which i'm sure they will... oh well... just keep the money for next year. OH is gutted as he is having such a stressful time and work and we've been so excited talking about all the things we're were going to do there (corfu). But still, there are people in worse situations than having their holidays cancelled i'm sure.

If anyone has any advice, as we've never done anything like this, it would be welcomed, ie how long it really takes etc...

Dont know when you planned to go but on the BBC at the weekend they were saying thee are loads of cheap deals this year in the school holidays so maybe you'll get you money back in time to get one of these.

we planned to go end of August (29th)

we just got our letter back from ATOL to say they've received our claim on the 11th...even though i posted it to JetLine on 26th by recorded delivery, so they've been fannying for ages their end... we now have another 4-6 weeks wait ahead of us.

It's so frustrating, we both have the time booked off and cannot cancel it, and don't have the money to go anywhere - what a waste! i'd rather go to work than sit around doing nothing! we're trying to look into things we can do that week to make it a bit more exciting but nothing ever seems as fun as a week in sun! and i think we can kiss the sun goodbye in this country for the year lol
