Moving into a house that has an electric hob should I change to gas?
Comments

no it will not cost too much more as Gas Prices are artificially high right now. That may change in a few years though.0

Hi rrw......also your annual gas servicing may cost more.
Steamers and microwaving is the way to go. Low capital costs, and you heat the food not the pan.0 -
I always wonder about people who say they believe one or t'other is cheaper, I've always thought of gas as cheapest.
But I've never confirmed this, i.e. boiled a pan of water on an electric cooker then boiled a pan on a gas cooker.
Factors affecting the result would be
water temp to start with.
Type of pan used, I suspect some pans will be more effiecient on gas or electric and less effective on the other.
It would be nice if some scientist did a definative test, to bury this question once and for all.0 -

Gas certainly makes the kitchen dirtier than an electric hob.0 -

I certainly don't see any marked difference but I tend to clean the kitchen twice a week anyway. It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.0 -
From the Energy Saving Trust( government sponsored organisation)Question
Should I buy a gas or electric oven and hob?
Answer
Gas ovens are up to three times more efficient than electric ovens.
That doesn't mean it justifies the cost of changing cookers - it would take years to recover the costs; and you might have to get additional gas pipes installed.
However it is a factor to consider when you have to get a replacement for any reason.
Having had both in my time it would be a no contest for me - Electric!0 -

The people you don't like because of what they say about standby. So how can we trust them for this?
Why electric? You like the easy to clean halogens?
There's something real about cooking on a flame, and I don't think electric could supply the amount of heat needed for a large wok - which a double ring wok burner does. So gas for me.0 -
