Cleaning yellowing plastic
Comments
-
I will be having a new kitchen fitted before christmas and I have to pick my appliances.
My washing machine is ( touch wood) working fine but the port hole door section has gone yellow with age ( I think it's about 5 or 7 years old) I only wash on cold.(It's a Zanussi jet system 1600)
The rest of the machine is still white although the print on the buttons is getting faint.
So how do I get the yellow out of the door please?
OR should I just bite the bullet and get a new one?
Thanks in advance:)0 -
I don't know how to get rid of the yellowing, but you can buy appliance paint. I certainly wouldn't dream of buying a new machine just because of the yellowing.
Alternatively, you could hang a curtain in front of the machine. This is what I've done as my machine is silver but the kitchen is kind of retro/country style so the silver doesn't really go.0 -
Good idea about the curtain Gv! Thanks. I suppose I am just worried it will end up looking a mess when everything else is all new, but buying a new one for the sake of it doesn't really sit well with me either! Better the devil you know eh?:)0

You could buy a new door for it from a spares company but not as moneysaving as the curtain idea. Don't get a new machine. The older ones are more reliable!0

Another vote for Don't get rid of the machine - I've got an Zanussi original Jet system that's 18 years old and still going well. I hope yours lasts that long too! Mine is a bit yellowed too and because it's a different material (plastic) to the body of the machine it won't just change colour the same way so will stand out. You can buy a new door (I assume you mean the circle of plastic around the glass bit), but it might be difficult sourcing parts for an older machine.
Another reason not to get a new machine - the length of the cycles these days is stupidly long - I can do a 60C towels wash in under an hour, my mate's new machine takes over 2 hours for a 40c wash!!
I love the idea of covering it with a pretty curtain though! I might just do that with mine.
It's only a game

Hi all
My white PC is getting a bit old, it's white plastic and has gone a yellowy colour from light and age. Any idea how to get the yellow colour off? Bear in mind that I have to use as little wetness as possible because of all the parts inside, so bathing it is not an option!
Thanks guys0 -
try workin a little cream cleaner with damp cloth and wipe it but really doubt it will get any better as its goin to be mainly discoloured through light....0

hydrogen peroxide could help. To avoid too much liquid use the powdered form and make a paste, or if you have liquid use flour to make a paste. Scrub it on with a toothbrush.
You could also try making a paste with bleach in the same way0 -

I'm not sure this can be done, but if anyone knows it'll be Old Stylers
As this has fallen from the front page of OS, I'll add this to the existing thread so that you can browse other ideas.:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0
