Do I need planning permission?

My backgarden faces onto an area the residents use to park (mostly me). There is no pavement or walkway. I want to put gates along my boundry to allow car access into my garden. Do I have to obtain planning permission to do this? My neighbour did a similar thing a few years age but she has moved out so cannot find out what she did.

I only ask becuase I know there is no way to stop people parking across the drive and I don't want to spend 00's to lower the kerb if I can get away with doing it.

Thanks in advance.

I think you would need to speak to the planners. Realistically you are trying to create your own driveway from the public land and prevent them from parking in front of your gates? If you just put the gates on your fence (which you own) in theory anyone is allowed to park in front and prevent you from entering your own garden.
    Speak to the planners.
