  • ^^Other duties usually covers it!
  • I think if you are doing actual work tasks, it stands to reason that you start doing them at the alloted contract hours, but if it's 'personal time' or just setting up time then I'd say 15 minutes before you start work is fairly standard with most employers as you'd be expected to start working on the hour. I think this may be the way to look at it.

    Hi

edit: i can understand you have to be ready for work by nine(so be in early if you want tea/take coat off ect) but im still not sure about say setting the displays up/cleaning. If you want tea /breakfast before work, i can understand you getting in early-its not the employer problem, but having to set things up before you work, i cant quite see.

usually displays need to be set up for when the shop/business opens, its hardly going to look professional with a display looking untidy or it being set up at 9 15

It seems strange that they mentioned an actual time (15mins). But if it is in the contract, it is in the contract.

Unpaid overtime is quite normal in many jobs, if not most these days.

However, if you are working for minimum wage, then there might be a case for being against the law as the average hourly wage would reduce when you took into account the extra 30 mins each day.

In which case they should pay someone to come in earlier to tidy it!

My first job, with one of the main clearing banks stated: Overtime must be worked to suit the requirements of the Bank,Payment will be made at the rate of ...... an hour for each completed quarter hour worked after 5.00pm and at weekends but no payment will be made until one half hour of overtime has been worked. Most office managers would work the staff until 29 minutes past 5.00 as it made their department more efficient. If you wanted to progress this was the "system".

my last job was 9-5 and salaried and it says no paid overtime

An office job would work up to Xmas Eve at 5pm and be back the day after boxing day so not sure what other jobs do but if you had to stay till 7pm to get something finished there would be no payment or no time off in lieu
